Since graduating from Western Carolina University in 1999, with a BS degree in Recreational Therapy, Ms. Spearman has worked at Broughton Hospital in several different roles. She completed her RT internship in the Adult Acute Admissions Division in May 1999 and went on to serve as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in that division. She was later promoted to Recreational Therapy Supervisor in the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Division, an area of the hospital that serves the severe and persistently mentally ill. In May 2006, Ms. Spearman accepted the position of Acting Recreational Therapy/Creative Expressive Arts Therapies Department Director.
