Dental Services

The Dental Department strives to maintain oral health of our patients as an important part of their overall health and well-being. Emergency care and alleviation of pain are provided to all in-patients. An oral exam and more routine and/or comprehensive dental care are available to patients who stay in the hospital more than four weeks. The Dental Service seeks to provide dental consultation and treatment services to individuals served by Broughton Hospital, reflecting a compassionate concern for the whole person, with recognition of the dignity and worth of every person served. Emphasis is placed on maintaining natural dentition, limiting intake of high sugar foods/drinks, and brushing teeth on a daily basis.

The Dental Department utilizes a 1250 square foot facility, consisting of a waiting room, reception/appointment desk area, 3 operatories, sterilization island, x-ray room, darkroom, and a lab. A state-of-the art digital phosphor plate x-ray system and computerized dental records are accessed by 4 PC computers located throughout the clinic.  X-ray images are produced by intraoral and panoramic machines. The dental clinic complies with American Dental Association, Centers for Disease Control, and Occupational Safety & Health Administration guidelines.

The Dental Service has served as a student training site since 1976 and currently serves University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) dental students, Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC) dental assisting students, and Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) dental hygiene students.

Our dental staff includes: Howard Blair – Staff Dentist, Robin Morley – Dental Assistant, and Amy Rogers – Dental Assistant, Doug Veazey- Staff Dentist.
