The Medical Laboratory, a clinical support service of Broughton Hospital, performs laboratory tests,as requested by physcians and consulting physcians, for patients admitted to Broughton Hospital. These tests aid the physcian in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The laboratory performs over 340,000 laboratory tests annually. Testing includes Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Serology, Bacteriology, and Blood Banking, EKGs, and Phlebotomy. The laboratory has five consulting pathologists and is directed by Dr. Peter Keyser. The laboratory is accredited by JCAHO, and performs proficiency testing with the College of American Pathologists.

The laboratory utilizes reference laboratories with Specialty Laboratories, North Carolina State Laboratory, Wake Forest School of Medicine, and Quest Diagnostics to perform specialized laboratory tests for our patients at Broughton Hosptial.
