"Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants believe that meaningful and purposeful everyday life activity affects health, well-being and life satisfaction. Engagement in everyday activity (occupation) is not only an indicator of health, but also a promoter of health". (Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process, AJOT, Nov/Dec, 2002)

Occupational Therapy is a health and rehabilitation profession that helps patients regain, develop, and build skills that are important for independent functioning, health, well-being, and happiness. Occupational Therapy practitioners work with patients of all ages who, because of illness, injury, developmental or psychological impairment, need specialized assistance in learning skills to enable them to lead independent, productive, and satisfying lives.

Occupational Therapy treatment is based on the assessment of the patient's function with the goal of maximizing independence for successful community living. Evaluation areas may include Activities of Daily Living, Work and Vocational, Cognitive Skills and Integration, Psychosocial Skills and Sensorimotor Integration. Requests for service require a physician or treatment team referral.

We currently have a staff of one contract OTR and four OTA's who provide services to all divisions of the hospital. Services focus on evaluation and training of meaningful everyday occupations or the foundation skills needed to accomplish those tasks. We currently provide services through group and individual treatment sessions including sensory motor, crafts, life skills, wood working, cooking skills, wellness, adaptive equipment, and splinting.
