Patient Advocacy Services

Advocacy as a definition is an act of pleading for or giving verbal support to a cause. The Advocacy Department serves the patients of Broughton Hospital by speaking on their behalf in an effort to influence treatment and administrative decisions which affect their well-being. Advocates provide research, networking, and support as they assist with both class and case advocacy issues.  Concerns or allegations of rights violations are forwarded to Advocacy for investigation and remediation.

The mission of Patient Advocacy Services at Broughton Hospital is to support patient rights; to investigate reports of abuse or exploitation, and advocate on behalf of patients whose rights may have been violated; to monitor facility compliance with patients' rights and the use of least restrictive measures in treatments, policies, and programs; as well as to provide proactive training and otherwise promote staff understanding and awareness of the rights of patients, how these relate to staff care and treatment of patients, and how to prevent abuse, neglect, and exploitation of patients.
