Broughton Hospital
Morganton, NC
Patients' Rights and Responsibilities

Patients at Broughton Hospital have a fundamental right to considerate care that safeguards their personal dignity and respects their cultural, psychosocial, and spiritual values. These values often influence patients' perception of care and illness. Understanding and respecting these values guide the hospital in meeting patients' care needs and preferences.

We believe that a hospital's approach to patients and its business practices have a significant impact on the patient's experience of and response to care. Access, treatment, respect, and staff conduct affect patient rights.

Therefore, in accordance with North Carolina Statutes and our belief in the importance of patients’ rights, Broughton Hospital routinely provides patients (adults and minors) and legally responsible persons information on Patients’ Rights and Responsibilities and Advance Care Directives within twenty-four hours after admission.

Rights are available in Spanish, Braille and on tape, and interpreters are provided as needed. Detailed information regarding relevant State laws is available at –

The North Carolina General Assembly site

Summaries of rights and responsibilities are available as follows:

Patients’ Rights and Responsibilities – Adults

Patient’s Rights and Responsibilities – Minors
