The Physical Therapy Department at Broughton Hospital is an efficient and innovative department designed to meet the physical needs of Broughton Hospital patients who have movement dysfunction or pain. Physical Therapy staff provide a form of health care that prevents, identifies, corrects and alleviates acute or prolonged movement dysfunction of anatomic or physiologic origin. |

Physical Therapy services are requested by referral. Each patient referred is assessed through examination and interview before treatment begins. The evaluation may include assessment of muscle strength, range of motion, ambulation, pain, and difficulty moving. A general evaluation may trigger the need for a more specific evaluation of a particular area, i.e. lumbar spine. |
The Physical Therapy Department uses a functional, individual approach to patient care. Each patient that is referred is managed through examination, evaluation, diagnosis and intervention in a manner to optimize outcome. Programs that we provide for patients include pain management using a variety of heat or cold modalities, individualized exercise programs, coordination of orthotic and prosthetic services, and assisting with mobility through a variety of assistive devices. |
As the Physical Therapy Department continues to evolve, we look for better ways to serve Broughton Hospital patients. We have a well-established student program for both Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant students. |
