The Geropsychiatry Active Treatment Enhancement (GATE) Program within Division M is designed to enhance the treatment options for the geriatric, psychiatric patient. Enhancement is achieved through the utilization of key principles including, but not limited to, individualization, provision of psychosocial interventions, environmental adaptation, interdisciplinary collaboration and an attainment of identified goals. Utilization of these principles assist in facilitating patient functioning at the highest level of personal independence possible, with the ultimate goal being return to the community. The purpose of the GATE program is to provide psychosocial interventions (PSIs) to patients based on their individual needs through a comprehensive and centralized off-ward treatment program. Comprehensive refers to program components designed so that patients at all levels of functional capacity have access to PSI's. Functional levels are based on established criteria. The members of the interdisciplinary treatment team determine each patient's level of functioning, which in turn helps determine how each patient's treatment needs can best be met. |
